Congratulations to Ellington Congregational Church
Hands On Hartford’s 2016 Volunteer Congregation of the Year
On Thursday, April 7 th , Peg Doffek, Dottie Marshall, Jill and Al Tiedt, Jack and Carol Hagopian, Jon and Lyn Allen, Dave, Ellen and Kayla Panagrosso joined Pastor Karen to receive the award as Hands On Hartford’s 2016 Volunteer Congregation of the Year. After refreshments and light jazz in the first ever Volunteer Event to be held at Hands On Hartford’s new Center for Community , volunteers from across the region were honored for their roles as the “pieces of the puzzle” that bring food, housing, advocacy, support and hope to individuals and families living in poverty in Hartford.
TELOS was the first volunteer group in that new building – kicking off the extensive effort to clean it out in preparation for construction. More ECC volunteers continued that effort by hauling and moving useable items for storage or re-use by others in the community. Besides being a long-time ministry partner with Hands On Hartford, supporting its efforts with annual giving and through initiatives like the Walk Against Hunger, the Board of Missions committed $1,000 on behalf of our church to help build and support the new Center – generosity noted on a beautifully rendered recognition wall. And less than a month before the April 7 th celebration, John and Andrie Bellezza and the Panagrosso family led ECC’s Jr. High youth group, PACE, in the first overnight Volunteer Immersion Experience at the Bartholomew Avenue building.
It was a wonderful night to honor a long and important partnership. Thank you to all who help make our shared ministry with Hands On Hartford such a life-changing experience.
Hands On Hartford, in partnership with others, strengthens community in Hartford by responding faithfully to people in need through programs that change lives and renew human possibility.
